About Yolanda
I graduated with a Neuroscience degree from the University of Rochester and have 5 years of teaching experience as a private tutor, a teaching assistant, and an ACT instructor for Cambridge Educational Services. I personally scored in the 99th percentile on the math portion of the SAT. I understand the importance of standardized testing since many universities and colleges make decisions about admissions and scholarship based on high scores on the SAT or ACT.
Whether a student wishes to raise his/her grades or simply enhance his/her subject mastery, my goal is to help him/her understand the materials and attain higher test scores. I am very patient, understanding, and creative. I have privately tutored students ranging from elementary school to college. Many of my students are also adults who had gone back to school to obtain their bachelor's, teaching, or nursing degree.
My tutoring program is successful because I offer a highly personalized plan to match your specific goals and learning style. Good teaching requires a lot of time and effort so I devote many hours to make sure that every lesson is well prepared. I constantly work on modifying my teaching methods to fit my students' learning style. In order to accomplish this, I always keep notes on how the lesson went. Did the students have difficulty with a particular question or concept? Did they grasp the main ideas at the end of each session? I also solicit students' feedback on my teaching. I constantly try to improve my teaching since there is always room for improvement. My teaching requires that students complete assignments between sessions. I have a positive teaching approach as well as high expectations.
My goal is for my students to become stronger and more confident individuals. I also want to offer affordable tutoring instruction for students and families on a tight budget. If you desire more information, or want to talk to me about the possibility of tutoring, please contact me. I am here for you!
